Editorial Standards

Libradia aims to make history clear, engaging and traceable to evidence. These standards guide the preparation and revision of our articles.

Sources and historical claims

We prioritize museums, universities, archaeological projects and scholarly publications. We check central claims, names, dates and quotations against the cited material. A source is included because it supports the article, rather than simply because it concerns the same broad topic.

Evidence and interpretation

We distinguish surviving evidence from the explanations proposed for it. Where dates are approximate or interpretations differ, we say so. We avoid presenting a disputed claim of historical priority as an established fact. Similarities between societies are not treated as proof of direct contact.

Original writing

Articles are written as original explanations. Quotations are brief and attributed. We do not invent dialogue, eyewitness testimony or private thoughts for historical people.

AI assistance

AI tools assist with research organization, drafting, editing and visual production. Their output is checked against external sources before publication. AI-generated reconstructions are labelled and are never presented as photographs of archaeological evidence. We do not claim that AI assistance amounts to specialist peer review.

Images and credits

Photographs, illustrations and maps receive source and credit information appropriate to their use. Reconstructions illustrate an interpretation; their details should not be read as a complete record of what a historical place looked like.

Dates and comparisons

Historical dates use BCE and CE. We distinguish the date an article is published from the period it covers. Comparisons explain their geographical scope and whether the examples overlap in time.

Corrections

When a substantive error is identified, we review the relevant evidence and correct the article. A note records material changes that affect its meaning or conclusions. Small spelling and formatting corrections may be made without a separate note.

To report a possible error, email info@libradia.com with the article title or link, the passage in question and, where possible, a supporting source. We assess correction requests on the evidence provided.

Commercial relationships

If an article includes an affiliate link or paid placement, that relationship is disclosed. Recommendations must be relevant to the subject. Payment or commission does not determine our historical conclusions.
